The Birth of the Mother Bag + Essential Postpartum Kit
At Nyssa, we believe in the life-changing impact of great design - that when we put empathy into practice through design, we have the power to transform women’s health.
And it is what drives us today to introduce our most complete, most comprehensive postpartum recovery solution ever: The Mother Bag + Essential Postpartum Kit.
Containing everything a new mom needs to ease into motherhood, this lush vegan leather bag has been thoughtfully designed to be there for you immediately after birth, throughout the fourth trimester, and beyond. Packed with all of the essentials to help you have a smoother, faster, and more comfortable recovery, the Mother Bag also comes with a changing pad, a wet/dry bag, and a place for your laptop - because we know that feeling like ‘you’ again is a critical part of recovery.
HOW DID WE GET HERE?
After giving birth, some of our team experienced tearing and swelling of the perineal region, while some of us had to tend to painful c-section incisions. And each one of us experienced the discomfort of engorgement while pumping and breastfeeding, followed by the all-too-familar abdominal pangs and pains when our periods kicked in again. Regardless of our individual experiences, we were all dismayed by the lack of solutions available to address these problems.
WE WANTED TO CHANGE THAT!
So, we set out to create the products we wish we had throughout our postpartum: wear and care therapies that allowed us to focus on the things that really mattered to us, like caring for our babies, walking our dogs, returning to work, and generally getting on with our lives!
We collaborated not only with our Nyssa Network women’s health professionals, but also with women all around the world to create the most thoughtful prototypes - and then to iterate on them, dozens of times, until we got it right. Because for us, a design is not done until it is effective against the problem, functional in life, aesthetically uplifting, and puts women’s agency over their health into their own hands.
Although ‘designed for women, by women’ has become somewhat of a buzz-phrase over the last few years, at its heart it holds true to everything we believe: when we deeply, truly understand the problem we are solving for, we can create lasting change - by design.
